What are veneers?

Dental veneers are created custom to your smile and are designed to cover the visible face of your teeth. Veneers consist of a thin layer of porcelain or composite resin that acts as a shell over your teeth; custom made for a perfect match.

Only requiring a minimal amount of tooth reduction, veneers offer a more conservative restoration option compared to a dental crown. It is essential that the underlying tooth is strong, healthy and not heavily filled. The process involves the removal of a small amount of your tooth’s enamel which will be replaced by your new veneer. Veneers can correct a single tooth, through to an entire arch of damaged or unsightly teeth.

Correct your smile’s appearance and health

Veneers can transform the colour, texture, shape and even alignment of your smile.

Porcelain vs composite

Veneers can help to correct:

  • Chips or cracks
  • Discolouration
  • Misshaped teeth

While they can correct these issues, veneers can also:

  • Enhance the appearance of your smile
  • Redesign the shape and length of teeth
  • Whiten and brighten your smile
Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth coloured porcelain shells that are custom made by a specialised technician to bond to the surface of your teeth.
Unlike porcelain, composite resin veneers are applied to the surface of your teeth, by your dentist. This material is then sculpted to the desired shape and set in place using a specific light.   Generally completed in one appointment, composite resin veneers blend into your teeth seamlessly to create a natural and bright smile. This can sometimes be a more cost-effective treatment which will allow you to have an immediate result.

Our team here at totalcare dentistry is committed to providing you with porcelain or composite veneers that provide a functional health benefit, as well as an aesthetic benefit.
